Tummy Tuck
(Abdominoplasty)
Our bodies tell a story — of where we’ve been, what we’ve gone through, and how we’ve changed over time. Sometimes, life events leave markings on our body that don’t reflect how we want to remember our story. Pregnancy, for instance, brings a child but can forever change the firmness of your abdomen. Weight changes also commonly affect the waistline in unflattering ways. If your abdomen doesn’t reflect how you feel inside, a tummy tuck can help restore both form and confidence. This isn’t just about a flatter belly; it’s about redefining your shape, feeling empowered, and telling your life story the way YOU want it to be told.
As a plastic surgeon, I’m passionate about creating elegant, natural results that honor your unique anatomy and personality. Through careful listening, precise surgical technique, and a truly personalized approach, I’ll be with you every step of the way. I’m Dr. Leela, and I will do everything possible to ensure your tummy tuck transformation feels right for you.

Who Is a Candidate for Abdominoplasty?
You may be a good candidate for tummy tuck surgery if you:
- Have excess abdominal skin or loose skin that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise
- Have weakened or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), often after pregnancy or major weight loss
- Carry localized fat deposits in the lower abdomen
- Are in good health and at or near a stable weight
- Are done having children and have realistic expectations
A tummy tuck can dramatically improve core contour and muscle tone for the right candidate. During our consultation, I’ll design a personalized treatment plan based on your goals and anatomy to restore your confidence and comfort.
Benefits of Tummy Tuck Surgery
A tummy tuck offers both aesthetic and functional improvements, especially for those who’ve experienced changes in the abdominal area due to pregnancy, weight loss, or aging. Some of the most meaningful benefits include:
- Removing excess or sagging abdominal skin
- Tightening weakened or separated abdominal muscles
- Creating a flatter, firmer, and more sculpted midsection
- Reducing localized fat deposits that resist diet and exercise
- Enhancing clothing fit and overall body confidence
Abdominoplasty delivers more than simple refinement of the waistline — it can help restore core strength, physical comfort, and confidence in your body. During our consultation, I’ll create a customized surgical plan that supports your lifestyle and helps you feel truly at ease in your skin.
About the Procedure
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin from the abdomen and tightens the abdominal wall muscles. It also commonly removes excess fat from the waist area as well as stretch marks located on the lower abdomen. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on the extent of correction needed.
I use a low, discreet incision placed just above the pubic area so that it may be hidden beneath most underwear and swimwear. Through this incision, I remove excess skin, repair any separated abdominal muscles, and contour the waistline for a smoother, firmer figure.

Surgical Techniques
There are different types of tummy tucks, and I’ll recommend the approach that best suits your needs:
- Full Tummy Tuck: Involves a hip-to-hip incision and muscle repair to contour both the upper and lower abdomen.
- Mini Tummy Tuck: Uses a shorter incision and is ideal for patients without muscle separation and with mild skin laxity isolated below the belly button.
- Extended Tummy Tuck: For patients with significant skin laxity that extends beyond the abdomen, this technique addresses the flanks and hips as well with a circumferential incision.
- Liposuction (combined with the above): Many tummy tucks include liposuction to remove excess fat, sculpt the waist, and refine the result.
Every surgical decision from incision placement to muscle repair is made with care, precision, and your unique anatomy in mind.
Recovery and Healing
Recovery after a tummy tuck requires rest, patience, and guided care. Most patients return home the same day or the next day, depending on the complexity of the surgery. During the first week, it’s normal to experience swelling, tightness, and moderate discomfort, all of which can be managed with medication and support garments. Light activity and short walks are encouraged within a few days after surgery.
You’ll wear a compression garment for several weeks to minimize swelling and support healing. Depending on your job, you’ll need to take about 10 to 14 days off work. Most patients are ready to resume normal daily activities after 2 to 3 weeks, but strenuous activity and core workouts should be avoided for 6 to 12 weeks.
I’ll check in with you frequently during your recovery to ensure you’re healing well and getting the support you need.
