Revision Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a deeply personal decision — and so is choosing to revise it. Whether you’re seeking to correct complications, adjust your size or shape, or remove your implants entirely, revision breast surgery offers the opportunity to realign your results with who you are today. It’s not about what went wrong — it’s about getting you to a place that feels right.
I’m Dr. Leela, and I approach revision breast surgery with a deep respect for your journey. Many women come to me feeling disappointed, frustrated, or unsure after a previous procedure — and I am here to listen closely and offer you the support, information, and empowerment you need to move forward. Together, we’ll create a surgical plan that restores balance, improves comfort, and brings your results into harmony with your current goals and lifestyle.

Who Is a Candidate for Revision Breast Augmentation?
You may be a good candidate for breast revision surgery if you:
- Are unhappy with the size, shape, or position of your current implants
- Have experienced complications such as capsular contracture, rippling, implant rupture, or asymmetry
- Are interested in changing your implant type, size, or placement
- Wish to remove your implants altogether
- Have experienced changes in your breast tissue due to weight fluctuations, aging, or pregnancy
- Are in good overall health and have realistic expectations
Revision surgery is often more complex than a primary breast augmentation. During your consultation, I’ll assess your anatomy, review your surgical history, and discuss your goals in detail so that we can plan a safe, tailored procedure just for you.
Benefits of Revision Breast Augmentation
Breast revision surgery can restore not only your appearance, but also your sense of ownership and ease in your body. Benefits may include:
- Correcting complications such as implant malposition, rupture, or capsular contracture
- Adjusting implant size, type, or position to better match your preferences
- Improving breast symmetry and overall aesthetic results
- Removing implants and reshaping the breasts for a natural look
- Addressing changes due to aging, weight shifts, or lifestyle evolution
- Helping you feel more confident, more comfortable, and more aligned with your current self
Whether your original surgery was recent or many years ago, revision breast surgery can help you feel at peace with your decision and your body.
About the Procedure
Revision breast augmentation is a highly customized procedure tailored to your unique goals and surgical history. The approach will vary depending on whether you’re replacing your implants, removing them, or correcting a complication such as capsular contracture. The procedure may involve pocket adjustment (to reposition the implants), capsulectomy (to remove scar tissue), or breast lift (to restore shape and elevation). For patients removing implants altogether, I’ll work to reshape the breast tissue and maintain a natural, proportionate contour — sometimes using fat grafting or lift techniques for added support.

Surgical Techniques
Every revision breast augmentation procedure is unique, but common techniques may include:
- Implant Exchange: replacing old implants with a different size, shape, or type
- Capsulectomy or Capsulotomy: removing or releasing tight scar tissue that has formed around the implant (especially for capsular contracture)
- Pocket Revision: adjusting the implant pocket to correct implant position, improve symmetry, or strengthen support
- Explant Surgery: removing implants entirely, often with aesthetic reshaping or lifting of the natural breast tissue
- Breast Lift (Mastopexy): lifting the breasts to restore a more youthful breast shape and position
All relevant techniques for your individual needs will be discussed in depth during your consultation, with a plan designed to support both your aesthetic goals and your long-term comfort.
Recovery and Healing
Healing can vary slightly depending on the type of revision performed, but recovery after revision breast augmentation is typically smooth. Most patients return to light activity within a few days. You can expect some soreness, swelling, and tightness in the chest — especially if the implant pocket was adjusted or if scar tissue was removed. I’ll prescribe medication to help manage any discomfort and support a more comfortable recovery.
A surgical or compression bra should be worn during the early healing phase to reduce swelling and provide support. Most patients feel ready to return to non-strenuous work within about one week. Some swelling, mild bruising, and temporary changes in sensation may continue for several weeks as your body adjusts and the implants settle into place. Strenuous exercise and upper body activities should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks.
Throughout your healing process, I’ll check in regularly to ensure everything is progressing as it should. You’ll receive personalized recovery instructions and ongoing support so you can heal with clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.
